Treasury Admits “Cap and Tax” Will Add $1761 in New Taxes per Family

Back in June, while the news media was worshiping at the feet of a recently deceased Michael Jackson, the US House of Representatives passed one of the most onerous bills imaginable with little debate or scrutiny. By a vote of 219-212, HR 2454, the Cap-and-Trade (Cap and Tax) scheme was passed with seven Republican votes! Republican representatives Bono (CA), Castle (DE), Kirk (IL), Lance (NJ), LoBiondo (NJ), McHugh (NY), Reichert (WA) and Smith (NJ) ignored their constituent’s objections to cross the aisle to make this thing a reality.

Amazingly with this thing being very high on Obama’s wish list there were actually 44 Democrats that had enough common sense to jump ship and vote against it. They should be commended for opposing their parties leadership. The Republican turncoats listed above can be thanked for this things passing. If you live in one of their districts, be sure to take notice and send them an appropriate “Thank You” note for offering to raise your taxes by up to $3000 per year while sending American jobs overseas.

Today “Cap and Tax” faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Many senators are already aware of opposition in their home districts and are reluctant to further lower their reelection potential. However, the threat is still there. If we fail to continue to make our objections known to our senators, make no mistake, it will become law. We will be taxed for every bit of energy we consume, produce, or import.

The additional tax costs have been touted by the Democrats as being “only” about $800 per year per family in the US. And what would we get for that price? Well, first of all you would get to contribute an additional $100 to $200 billion dollars in new taxes to the treasury for supporting all the good causes like Acorn’s “Advice to Prostitutes” program. Isn’t it wonderful supporting new business enterprises in the “hood”?

In addition there are lots of new “earmarks” that are just awaiting funding. Companys that produce energy would pay a large portion of that tax and would pass it on directly to the consumers. This “Cap and Tax” scheme is one of the instruments that was created to help fund Obamacare with several hundred billion additional dollars per year.

“Cap and Tax” is designed as a “feel good” program that will cut America’s greenhouse gas emissions as part of a “solution for Global Warming”. No matter that true science shows that worldwide temperatures are actually decreasing and have been for the last five years. How much additional taxation are we really willing to endure just for liberals to “feel good”.

Because of this legislation many manufacturers and energy producers will be forced to shut down American operations and send jobs, along with its energy consumption overseas. Since America is going to be producing less energy and less manufactured goods because of the taxes the slack will be taken up by China, India and other relatively undeveloped and similarly untaxed nations.

Because of their lack of environmental regulations these nations are some of the biggest polluters in the world today! China is today’s largest single polluter, and India is not far behind. They also produce many times more pollution for the amount of energy and goods produced than in the US. As a result of this legislation the net amount of emissions worldwide will go up, not down! But liberals in the US can still sip their lattes and be so thankful that they have cut down on the evil energy consumption in the US. (Don’t mention the unemployment lines. Those are just “Inconvenient Truths”)

Today we are told that about 20% of the pollution seen on the west coast of the US now comes from China. That amount will go up as China assumes a even larger energy consumption role. Jobs will disappear as more companies discover they can avoid the taxes by moving their manufacturing jobs “south of the border” or “across the sea”. American families will be paying more taxes while having less jobs than ever before, regardless of Obama’s promise that 90% of taxpayers would not see their taxes go up.

While Democrats try to minimize the effect of this tax increase, others are not so positive about the size of the tax burden coming from this. Republican sources estimate the annual cost per family to be in excess of $3000 per year per family, and the Heritage Foundation estimates it at over $1500 per year. On September 11th, a freedom of information request resulted in the Obama Administration’s Treasury Department releasing their own documentation that shows that they estimate cap-and-trade energy legislation would American families $1,761 a year in new taxes. This in spite Obama’s no more taxes for 90% of taxpayers pledge.

Any representative, regardless of party, that voted for this senseless travesty on the American public should be put on immediate notice to look for a new job next November. Its time we find someone that will actually represent the people that send them to Washington. This is only one of a series of ill conceived bills that Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are trying to foist on the American public and we should not stand for it in any form! Contact your Senator and let him/her know you are taxed enough already.

Ain’t No Such Thing as a Free Lunch

Nearly everyone has heard the old adage, “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.”  Unfortunately it seems today that few people in high political places seem to understand it anymore.  It seems that every day we see the leadership of the Democratic party in Washington standing up advocating or promising another “free lunch” for somebody in one of their favorite constituencies.  Things such as: tax “rebates” to those that paid no taxes.  Social benefits to persons in the country illegally.  Free medical benefits to everyone.  Financial bailouts to reward those who used poor judgment in their business dealings.   Equal pay for those who put in unequal work.  Where do you think the money for all of these “free lunches” comes from?  Margaret Thatcher once said, “The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money”

Dr Adrian Rogers, a former pastors of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis summed it up so well:

“.  .  .  .  You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the industrious out of it.  You don’t multiply wealth by dividing it.  Government cannot give anything to anybody that it doesn’t first take from somebody else.

“Whenever somebody receives something without working for it, somebody else has to work for it without receiving.  The worst thing that can happen to a nation is for half of the people to get the idea they don’t have to work because somebody else will work for them, and the other half to get the idea that it does no good to work because they don’t get to enjoy the fruit of their labor.” (Adrian Rogers, Ten Secrets for a Successful Family: A Perfect 10 for Homes that Win.  Crossway Books, 1998)

Dr Rogers hit the nail on the head.  Our economy works by allowing people the freedom to work to improve their lot in life and then to enjoy the rewards of their effort.  That formula has produced the greatest economic system the world has ever known, but it can not survive continued socialist experiments.   When you punish people with high levels of taxation you remove the incentive for them to work.

If a physician can not receive more than a Wal-Mart greeter, where is the incentive for him to study twelve long years to prepare for his profession?   If a business owner can not receive more than their hourly workers, why should he take the financial risk and work 70 hours a week to build a business?  And if businesses are not allowed to fail, why should business owners work hard to succeed?

When the people have no incentive to work the nation suffers as a whole.  The lifestyles of everyone falls and eventually everything falls into disarray.  This is why every socialist government ultimately fails.  They steal from the people the right to benefit from their own labor to give to those who won’t work.

Tax Day Tea Party?

American TEA bag

American TEA bag

On December 16th 1773 colonists disguised as Indians boarded British ships in the port of Boston and siezed the cargo of tea and tossed it into the sea.  This was in opposition to the “Tea Tax” which had been imposed on the colonists by the British Parliament.  They had no representation in parliament and demanded it was unfair they should be taxed without representation.  This great “Boston Tea Party” led directly to the war for independence that started only a little over three years later.

Today we are in similar situations in this country.  Our elected “representatives” of both parties have been ignoring the people for years and spending public money like drunken sailors.  They have now become so irresponsible even China, who has been buying America’s debt for years is beginning to say, “No more!”   The latest in these violations was their voting for a $500 BILLION (Thats $500,000,000,000 Dorothy) bill WITHOUT EVEN READING IT!!!! Now they are printing money like crazy to cover these expenditures.  That’s new unbacked dollars that will make inflation soar, perhaps the cruelest tax of all.

People are now beginning to say, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to stand for it anymore.” Trillions of dollars have been spent or squandered on “bailouts” and phony “stimulus” bills that favor bankers and political buddies.  This is making huge numbers of Americans of both parties very upset at the wholesale mortgaging of the future for them and their children.  At latest count the expenditures of the last six months alone have created an indebtedness of about $30,000 for every household in America.  If you add interest and inflation to that debt it pushes it to well in excess of $100,000 per household over the next 10 years.

Around the country people are having protests and calling them “Tea Parties”.  Attendance has been increasing with many having thousands of “party goers” attending.  These protests are not aimed at one political party because both political parties have been guilty of the same thing.

The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Parties have gained momentum and there is now a huge rally planned for Tax Day (April 15th) in cities all over the country.  There was one such day back in February when there were parties in forty cities.  The Tax Day Tea Party is expected to have protests in over 300 cities nationwide and well may become the largest multi-city protest in American history.

Www.teapartyday.com asks the questions:

Are you fed up with a Congress and a president who:

  • vote for a $500 billion tax bill without even reading it?
  • are spending trillions of borrowed dollars, leaving a debt our great-grandchildren will be paying?
  • consistently give special interest groups billions of dollars in earmarks to help get themselves re-elected?
  • want to take your wealth and redistribute it to others?
  • punish those who practice responsible financial behavior and reward those who do not?
  • admit to using the financial hurt of millions as an opportunity to push their political agenda?
  • run up trillions of dollars of debt and then sell that debt to countries such as China?
  • want government controlled health care?
  • want to take away the right to vote with a secret ballot in union elections?
  • refuse to stop the flow of millions of illegal immigrants into our country?
  • appoint a defender of child pornography to the Number 2 position in the Justice Department?
  • want to force doctors and other medical workers to perform abortions against their will?
  • want to impose a carbon tax on your electricity, gas and home heating fuels?
  • want to reduce your tax deductibility for charitable gifts?
  • take money from your family budget to pay for their federal budget?”

If so, participate in a local TEA party rally, the Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party.

Many are deciding  to “go out for tea” on tax day.  I suspect I will because I’m TEA’d.  How about you?
Perhaps this could be our theme song:  http://susie1114.com/10percentisgoodenough.html

Tax Tip for 2008 State Income Tax

The Arkansas state income tax law allows a tax credit for up to $50 per person ($100 per couple) to be claimed on your state income tax for political donations.  To qualify you must donate directly to candidates for state or local office or to state and local  political party organizationsYou still have until April 16th 2009 to make such a donation to the Garland County Republican Party to apply for the 2008 tax year.  Donations to candidates for national office do not count for the credit.

If you have not already made such donations for local/state candidates for 2008 you can  donate to the Garland County Republican Party before you file your Arkansas tax return and receive a direct credit on your state income tax.  Mail your donations to: The Republican Party of Garland County, 118 Second Street, Suite B,  Hot Springs, AR 71913

These donations will be used for the purpose of sponsoring Republicans for election to local and state offices.  This is especially important now as we see things coming up in the Democrat dominated state legislature like striping Arkansas voters of their rights in presidential elections and granting in-state tuition rates for illegal aliens.   If you object to such foolishness, you can help out financially and get credit dollar for dollar on your state tax return so it doesn’t cost you a dime.  Please help us to make a difference in Arkansas!

Bailout the New Tax

This new/old idea of bailing out bad business is just a bait and switch game for adding new taxes. The bailout package is fundamentally flawed from its beginning. In a freemarket economy we should not be giving money to those who have made bad business decisions. We are led to believe that our tax dollars should be invested with bad businessmen and expect it to come back! Impossible!

Secondly, the stimulus bill is mostly new goverment programs that are longterm programs designed to promote the social agenda of the party in power. We must not let this happen.

The Tax System Explained with Beer

I wish I could claim authorship of this, but I cannot.  The source of this article is unknown, but it’s clear explanation of a very complex system is outstanding.

Since the concept of taxes seems to elude many here is an effort to reduce it to something everyone can understand. The progressive income tax is similar to ten buddies going out for a beer. You’ve always wondered about it, now you can know for sure how it works.
